Where does my father, my mother work?
Family Safety Day

On September 22 U. S. Steel Kosice opens its gates not only to its employees but also to their family members - wives, husbands, partners and children. The debut event entitled "Where does my father, my mother work? Family Safety Day" will enable the closest relatives to look round the Company premises, and a wide-ranging accompanying program will also be arranged. Applications to join in this event can be made via the intranet or by telephone until September 12 (the application list may be closed earlier if capacity is reached before that date). How to go about it and what you can expect to find on that Saturday both outside and inside the factory gates is all revealed in the special edition of Ocel Vychodu which all employees will find today in their home-address mail-box.

Radiators and Pipes with a million hours worked without injury

At the end of June this year the employees of the Radiators and Pipes Division credited their account with a million employee-hours worked without injury. To mark the occasion, on August 9 eleven representatives of the Division were invited to a working lunch with U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul. Together with Vice President Operations Mark Tabler, General Manager Occupational Safety and Health USSK Róbert Meitner and other managers from the Rolling Mills Section, the President thanked the Division team for the work they have performed. This meeting was also an opportunity to discuss projects focusing on eliminating potential threats and dangers.

Family Sports Day for the sixth time

Many interesting competitions, attractions and an unmissable accompanying program - that's what the sixth edition of the annual Family Sports Day was like, which was organized for U. S. Steel Kosice employees last Saturday, August 11, by the Company's Public Affairs Department. Steelmakers' families took part in soccer, table-tennis, darts and zumba competitions. They watched demonstrations of flameproof clothing and fire-fighting equipment used at the steelworks, and took advantage of first-aid and road-safety courses. Children could let off steam playing speed badminton or petanque, and there were several activity stalls where they could win candies. Ice-hockey fans were surely pleased with the autograph session with HC Kosice players, and there was great interest in a new attraction - riding a segway. This very pleasant day was further enlivened with singing and dancing performances.

Designers tackle "Kosice - Innovative City" theme

The tenth international workshop named Metal Inspirations 2012 is fast approaching. This coming Monday, August 20, the workshops of the former metallurgy apprentice school in Saca will be welcoming around two dozen students and teachers of design from four countries and six universities and colleges. This round-figure edition of the annual Metal Inspirations event, which has been co-organized by the Technical University of Kosice, U. S. Steel Kosice and the specialist school in Kosice-Saca for the same long period, culminates in the official opening of an exhibition of the created works in the premises of the Slovak Technical Museum in Kosice on August 30 this year. The works made from metal which the designers produce during the seven-day workshop in cooperation with the school's metalworking trainers will all be based on the theme of the Kosice - European Capital of Culture 2013 project.
