Kosice steelmakers acknowledged in Banska Stiavnica
Last weekend the ancient town of Banska Stiavnica came alive with the Day of Miners, Geologists, Steelmakers and Oilmen. Participants came from all over Slovakia to
celebrate the festival of these trades, also attended by SR Minister for Trade and Industry Tomas Malatinsky and SR Minister for the Environment Peter Ziga. The festivities also involved the
presentation of awards to long-serving employees in the relevant branches of industry. Among the recipients were eleven employees of U. S. Steel Kosice - Miroslav Bodrog, Miroslav
Fedor, Vladimir Halgas, Frantisek Obermann, Ladislav Radomski, Jan Varchola, Vasil Mackal, Karol Krisica, Vladimir Kuruc, Jozef Sasarak and Frantisek Zencuch, who were given badges of honor by
the Minister for Trade and Industry, either For Loyal Work or For Self-sacrificing Work.
For their personal contribution towards the organizing of the 15th European Miners' and Steelmakers' Days, which took place in Kosice in early June, USSK Vice
President Elena Petraskova and Vice President Vladimir Jacko were presented the award For Preserving Traditions by the Minister. Among the first to congratulate them were U. S. Steel
Kosice President George F. Babcoke, KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Labor Union Council Chairman Mikulas Hintos, and other steel company representatives who were taking part in the official
assembly and the evening Salamander Parade.
Mechanika Division with a million hours without injury
One million employee-hours without injury have been worked by the team of employees at the Mechanika Division. This success by the maintenance staff was acknowledged by U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke yesterday, September 10th, at a meeting with ten selected employees who have shown the greatest commitment in the field of occupational safety. The working lunch was also an opportunity to speak about future plans for the Division's operations, as well as about the work and hobbies of the mechanics. This remarkable result was achieved by the Division team on August 16 of this year.
Steelmakers on the sportsfields
Steelmakers who are keen on sports are meeting this week for the 23rd edition of the annual USSK Summer Games. The event opened last Sunday, September 8, with the golf tournament, with 36 men and women golfers taking part. Another eleven sports disciplines are on the program for this Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14. This year's corporate Summer Games have attracted a total of 923 competitor entries.
