Kosice Self-governing Region award for David J. Rintoul
The Kosice Self-governing Region (KSR) Award has been given to former U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul for his extraordinary effort to keep the European operation of the United States Steel Corporation here in Kosice and for his specific contribution to supporting the economic and social development of the Kosice region. The award was presented personally by KSR Chief Executive Zdenko Trebula at an official gathering in the Kosice State Theater on Friday, October 11, attended by members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, representatives of several diplomatic corps, state administration, regional and local governments, the Church, the academic community and the industrial sphere. The award was accepted on Mr. Rintoul's behalf by the current President of the Kosice steelworks, George F. Babcoke.
MEPS from Brussels visit Kosice
On Monday, October 14, U. S. Steel Kosice welcomed the group of Members of the Europen Parliament, made up of members of the progressive alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) led by their chairman Hannes Swoboda. The MEPs visited the steelworks as part of their working trip to the eastern part of the Republic. At a short meeting with U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke and other top management representatives they discussed the Company's project aimed at employing people from marginalized groups of the population. The guests also looked round HDG Line No.3 and were familiarized with the production technology for zinc-coated materials.
Corporate OSH audit evaluates progress
In the last week, between October 14 to 19, the operations of primary production and production support of U. S. Steel Kosice and its subsidiary company RMS, a.s. Kosice underwent the second of this year's corporation audits of occupational safety and hygiene (OSH), which focused primarily on the maintenance of OSH regulations and rules. The auditors positively evaluated the progress achieved in the OSH field since the previous audit.
Start of this year's meetings for long-serving employees
The first of this year's gala evenings for long-serving employees in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Friday, October 11, saw the Company management's invitations taken up by 161 employees and their partners, namely those who have worked at the steelworks for 30, 35, 40 and 45 years in various sections of primary production and the department of Equipment Reliability. The celebrators were joined by U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke, OZ KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Labor Union Council Chairman Mikulas Hintos, USSK Vice President Human Resources Martin Pitorak, general managers, division directors and OZ KOVO plant organization chairmen. For all of these it was an opportunity to thank the employees personally for their long years of work and loyalty to the Company.
Successful marathoners meet USSK president
Twelve steelmakers, the most successful runners and in-line skaters at this year's Kosice Peace Marathon, enjoyed an informal meeting this Monday, October 21, with U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke. The meeting was an opportunity to acknowledge the employees' performances and to exchange experiences from the Marathon course.
