Twenty-five years ago the ancient town of Banská Štiavnica was inscribed together with all the technical heritage in its environs in UNESCO's World Natural and Cultural Heritage List, and next year it is due to become European Capital of Culture 2019. Last Friday though, September 7, the town came to life with the popular annual Salamander celebrations, the nationwide event for miners, geologists, steelmakers and oilmen, which this year again naturally featured a large group of Košice steelmakers led by top managers from U. S. Steel Košice.
This group included ten Company employees who received awards from the Minister for Trade and Industry SR at the official presentation ceremony. These consisted of badges of honor for employee loyalty and medals for exemplary work in the rescue service. Those receiving awards for long-term working achievement at the steelworks were Benjamín Beháň (section of GM Quality), Vladislav Jurko (section of GM R&D USSE), Ján Gaľa (Cokery) Ladislav Iľaščík (Mechanika), František Kováč (Shipping), Ladislav Kováč (Cold Rolling Mill), Jozef Vaško (Fire-fighting), Miroslav Šuba (OBAL-SERVIS), Jozef Golenya (RMS) and Ladislav Rožek (Labortest).
