Ľubomír Kurciník started his working life at the steelworks fifteen years ago.

Ľubomír Kurciník, the chief water distribution system machine operator in the Power Engineering Division, celebrated a small working anniversary some days ago. He linked his existing professional career with the steelworks in Košice fifteen years ago. This happened at a time when a certain transaction was getting ready to greatly change the business philosophy, culture, efficiency, attitude to occupational safety and workplaces themselves within the company. It brought along a new direction in life also to young Ľubomír, who had found his first job here. 
“I obtained work in the company in the standard way, through a selection procedure back in 2000, namely after graduating from school,” he mentions right at the beginning, and adds that he specialized in the field of steel construction at the school in Šaca. He worked for a half-year to gain operational experience in the former bridge building shop, and so the steelworks environment was no novelty to him. After all, his father had also worked here, at first in the foundry, then in the central machine shops and in conclusion in the Protected Operation, which he left to go into well-earned retirement. Although  young Ľubomír originally trained for a “mechanic’s job”, which was useful in many aspects at his current place of work, so far he has not engaged in steel construction in its classical understanding. 
“I got to the Power Engineering Division to work on the main water and sewerage lines, where I remained for seven years. I  started as a sewerage equipment cleaner,” he outlines his first employee rating, consisting among other things of cleaning drains from waste water and sediments. “Drains get choked sometimes, as they carry various solid particles, and they’ll sediment in time,” he managed the job of coping with dirt sediment removal, including also phenolic-ammoniac water “removal”. And then structural changes came about in Power Engineering, which also meant a new professional position for Ľubomír Kurciník... 
“I became a pumping station machine operator for the Cold Rolling Mill,” he smiles, and adds that he didn’t basically change his place of work. “I remained in the same building, just the job was different. The job description was to supervise the whole pumping station operation, to monitor operational parameters, mainly pressure and temperature, but also chemistry or water hardness and suchlike. The most important task was to keep the plant in operation without any problems. And they really could occur. Electric power failures ranked among the most frequent ones,” Ľubomír Kurciník casts his mind back to the time about half a year ago. He had been responsible namely for more tasks already during those sixth months. He changed to morning shifts, satisfying him better, and now he is chief water distribution system machine operator in the central waste water treatment plant at Sokoľany, in charge of main water and sewerage distribution. 
“We are responsible for industrial and drinking water distribution, which includes ducts and piping inspection, handling, support during unavailability times of respective lines, but also water meter reading, water tank checks or Bukovec emergency industrial water and water from the Čaňa lake regulation. I have basically remained a machine operator,” he remarks. 
This exclusive discussion about work turned out well in shifting for a while to another topic. “What is my usual way of spending free time? I use the computer, I read a lot of technical literature, and I like various encyclopedias,” he discloses before we say goodbye to each other, and he sets out for work again.
