Safety technician’s day with employees’ safety representatives
Alongside the implemented system for involving employees’ safety representatives in resolving issues of occupational safety and health protection (OSHP), which was
updated in 2011 with support from the new EWA software application, for which USSK received an award in 2012 as part of the Slovakian National Focal Point of the European Occupational Safety and
Health Agency (FOP-EU-OSHA 1st prize for Good Practice), as well as on the European level at the Conference on Health and Safety at Work in Dublin, April 2013 (certificate of merit for exemplary
cooperation between managers and employees in the field of risk prevention), in November 2013 the Košice steelmaking company launched a new project called Safety Technician’s Day with Employees’
Safety Representatives.
This eight-month project, the aim of which was to increase and make more effective the cooperation between management and employees through the employees’ safety
representatives, was evaluated in the last few days. During their joint meetings around the production plants, the employees’ safety representatives and safety technicians identified further
places for improvement, discussed issues concerning OSHP documentation and its practical application, looked into working conditions, and checked the usage of personal protective clothing and
equipment.
Families do sport
Last Saturday, August 16, the USSK training facility at Medzev was the venue for the eighth edition of the annual event called Families Do Sport. More than 300 steelmakers and their families matched their strength and skills in four sporting disciplines. For the first time the event involved the participation of children from the foster homes in Nižná Kamenica and Sečovce. Diplomas were presented to the winners by U. S. Steel Košice President George F. Babcoke.
Metal inspirations for the twelfth time
This Monday, August 18, the Košice steelmaking company welcomed 25 young students and their teachers from colleges and universities specializing in design in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Great Britain to the latest international workshop named Metal Inspirations. This event is organized by the Technical University of Košice in cooperation with U. S. Steel Košice, and this is now its twelfth edition. The works of art and design which the young participants create out of metal during their ten days in the workshops of the Vocational School in Šaca will later be presented to the public in an exhibition in Košice. This year’s workshop is based on the theme of the tenth anniversary of Slovakia’s accession to the European Union, and its motto is "I, European".
